Day of Mourning April 28, 2008 Local 402 hosted a presentation for the Day of Mourning. Tom Wiebe, chair of the local's OH & S committee, MC the event. It was attended by over 200 workers, Mayor, Council and Managers from City. The proclamation from the Mayor and Council was read out by Rick Tanaka. Tom Lauritzen, Regional Manager of Prevention at Worksafe, read out the statistics for 2007. The Worker's statement, issued by CUPE was read out by Laurie Larsen. A hymn played at the beginning of the ceremony and during the moment of silence was done by a bagpiper, Nicholas Walser. Refreshments were served to all after the event. This is the 11th presentation that the City has endorsed. In the past we have mounted plaques in various worksites and benches and planted tdrees in honor of those injured or killed on the job. The Union is very proud of the Work that the OH & S commmittees do and they are always acknowledged. As a finale the local does a draw for about 20 CUPE t-shirts honoring April 28th. The Union also does a presentation to Council on the Day of Mourning. In Solidarity Laurie Larsen
