About UsThe Surrey Municipal Employee's Association has been representing public workers in the Fraser Valley since September 6, 1947, when it was certified as local no 6. When a charter was granted by the National Union of Public Employees on August 16, 1950, it became Local 402. Our local sent three delegates to the CUPE founding convention: William Stevens, Delbert Milligan and Verna King - the only woman among BC's seventy representatives.* Currently CUPE 402 has over 2000 full and part time members. A full time President, one hard working office staff person, and permanent offices located in central Surrey. CUPE 402 consists of four sub-locals, 402-01 - White Rock, 402-02 - Libraries and 402-03 Cloverdale Rodeo. We are proud of our history of fighting for pay equity for our female sisters. We can take pride in our history of supporting working people everywhere. *Source"We're Your Neighbours, The story of CUPE" by Jo Dunaway |
